Airports
Systems integrator Camtronics has nearly completed a large-scale project
at a major metropolitan airport with a two-phase implementation of Ortega
InfoSystems FacilitySm@rt. Phase One has already included the deployment of
340 cameras to provide surveillance of extensive portions of the airport,
including:
-
passenger entrances and exits in each terminal
-
customs inspection areas
-
baggage handling areas
-
important machine rooms
-
employee offices
-
aircraft runways and taxiways
Phase two calls for an increase to 450 cameras.
Last year, this airport served 35 million passengers. More than 1,500
landings and takeoffs occur daily, and flights operate from three
north-south runways, two crosswind runways, and 103 aircraft gate
positions. A fourth parallel runway, which will
accommodate simultaneous arrivals and departures, is under construction.
The terminal area alone covers more than one million square feet.
FacilitySm@rt is designed for facilities covering expansive spaces. Not
only simple to integrate and operate, FacilitySm@rt can integrate
thousands of disparate security subsystems and buildings through Ortega
InfoSystems Sm@rtNode. Utilizing this system, an enterprise can grow with
minimal integration and reduced downtime and can preserve its capital
investment in existing security systems. The modular design of
FacilitySm@rt makes the system extremely flexible and scalable.
Airlines
Following the September-11th terrorist attacks, airlines were obliged to
enhance security examination and management of their own areas at airports.
One of the
top five airlines in the U.S. took the initiative to upgrade its video
surveillance and other security systems.
Amid the intensive scrutiny faced by all airlines regarding their security
measures, this airline selected Ortega InfoSystems FacilitySm@rt and systems
integration firm Electronic Technologies Corporation to integrate various
security systems — including its CCTV, video switch, and access control
system — on a single, browser-based GUI (graphical user interface). This
application of FacilitySm@rt allows its security professionals access to
integrated security information remotely or locally, from any workstation on
the private network.
Bridges
From air to land to water, FacilitySm@rt is flexible, scalable, and designed
to fit each company's individual needs. For a west coast bridge monitoring
system, Wireless Guys implemented a FacilitySm@rt solution that focuses on
utilization of remote live video clips in addition to PTZ analog cameras and
alarm detection devices.
The FacilitySm@rt solution focuses on utilization of remote live video. The
current implementation involves a pilot on one of six bridges with full
implementation to be completed this year.
Functions include:
-
live video
-
map-view navigation
-
PTZ control
-
flip-over PTZ control (TCP based)
-
recording of motion video clips initiated by motion I/O
-
DI I/O — motion sensor detection (TCP based)
-
video-clip playback from recorder
-
virtual video-monitor switch between video and monitor servers
-
full-screen live video display in IE browser
-
video-tour set-up
In today's world, FacilitySm@rt aims to make companies and their customers
feel secure thanks to cutting-edge technology, advanced design concepts, and
applications that meet users' needs to prepare, monitor, protect, and respond
to their facilities and the people living and working within that environment.
Commercial Buildings
Insignia Financial Group, Inc. is among the largest commercial real estate
service firms in the United States, enjoying a pre-eminent position in the
New York metropolitan area, and is a preferred provider of comprehensive
commercial real estate brokerage and management services nationally. The
company has annual
revenues surpassing $500 million a year and is the first company to unveil
e-commerce strategies that will couple its existing fulfillment capabilities
(i.e., its international real estate services operations) with cutting-edge
e-business models.
As a result, Insignia is the first Internet-enabled real estate services
company, with e-business models designed to supplement, enhance, and
complement its traditional lines of business.
Insignia was looking for a solution to manage their core properties at 300
California Street, located in San Francisco's Financial District, to provide
better security and services while at the same time reducing costs. They
chose FacilitySm@rt because of its Web-enabled monitoring capabilities
through the browser to facilities anywhere, anytime. Additionally, they like
the product for its:
-
superior video solutions
-
cost-effective asset protection
-
access to mission critical information
-
flexibility to scale coverage to more properties as their needs increase
The scope of the project includes two additional satellite sites, located in
the East Bay and in San Bruno on the Peninsula. All three sites are tied
together to provide a total integrated solution for facilities management.
This enables Insignia to manage its facilities better, smarter, and in a more
cost-efficient way than with traditional systems.
Virtual Security Operations Center
Ortega InfoSystems FacilitySm@rt system integrates a variety of facility
security systems and building operation data such as CCTV, access control,
burglar alarm, fire alarm, lighting control, and more. FacilitySm@rt applies
the most advanced
design concepts for users to access their security systems.
Ortega InfoSystems FacilitySm@rt system is designed and based on the concept
of a "virtual security operations center." In the event of an emergency,
FacilitySm@rt immediately notifies the responsible personnel. Wherever
management may be, they can log on to the FacilitySm@rt system to receive
first-hand information about the emergency. They can also operate CCTV, access
control, fire and burglary systems, or lighting control systems to respond to
each emergency, efficiently and effectively.
The combination of a web-browser GUI (graphical user interface) and the
integration software platform, FacilitySm@rt, is the best choice for
enterprise security management. FacilitySm@rt helps businesses create
unparalleled security solutions by increasing management efficiency, reducing
operating costs, and simplifying asset protection.
IDE — Intuitive Design Engine
Ortega InfoSystems IDE (Intuitive Design Engine) software development tool
is the quickest and easiest way to construct an integrated security system
without writing any software code or computer programs.
Constructing a professional integrated security system is as easy as
1 - 2 - 3:
The systems integrator can import background images in any popular graphics
format. He or she can easily load the floor view or building background
without any major artwork. Then the systems integrator can "drags and drop"
the security devices from the "device basket" on the left panel to the
appropriate locations on top of the background view.
The next step is to configure the security devices and the logical
relationships among the devices. To make the devices intelligent, the
systems integrator assigns logical relations among these devices. For
example, a rule can be easily set up so that when the intrusion detection
system is triggered, the assigned video camera will record a video clip.
Pre- and post-alarm video is recorded for simple event reconstruction.
The Ortega InfoSystems Sm@rtNodes are now configured.
After the configuration of all Sm@rtNodes and devices, a simple click on
the "Build" command automatically generates the project by downloading
the control algorithms to the specific Sm@rtNodes on the network.
Ortega InfoSystems's professional integrated security system is now up
and running.
Sm@rtNode
The Sm@rtNode runs on an IBM-compatible PC and has two main functions:
-
It directly controls multiple I/O modules and devices.
-
It serves as the major user terminal installed at each user's location.
Application Server
The Application Server is responsible for the entire security system.
Systems integrators develop and revise the specific security system project
through the IDE software tool installed on the Application Server.
Through the Sm@rtNode controllers, the Application Server controls all the
devices in the network.
